  • FIFA set to decide on Nigeria’s eligibility complaint Monday.

  • NFF alleges six DR Congo players were ineligible.

  • Verdict could send Super Eagles to Intercontinental Play-Off in Mexico.

The FIFA will on Monday, February 16, deliver its ruling on Nigeria’s protest against Democratic Republic of the Congo over alleged player ineligibility.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had in December filed a formal complaint, claiming that at least six DR Congo players who featured in the 2025 African playoff final were not eligible to play due to recent nationality switches.

The Nigeria national football team, popularly known as the Super Eagles, lost the match 4–3 on penalties after it ended 1–1 in regulation time.

NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, expressed confidence in the case, stating that the federation would not pursue a matter without strong grounds.

If FIFA rules in Nigeria’s favour, the country will be allowed to participate in the Intercontinental Play-Off tournament scheduled for March in Mexico.

A successful outing there could secure Nigeria one of the remaining African slots at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
