A commercial bus driver reportedly stabbed a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer with a broken bottle at Ojota Interchange over the weekend.

The incident occurred after LASTMA officials intercepted a Caravelle GL Volkswagen bus (EKY 693 YK) for driving along the Ojota–Ketu corridor with its passenger door open while fully loaded with commuters.

The driver attempted to flee by mounting the road median, but the vehicle was forced to stop.

Frustrated, the driver grabbed a broken bottle from inside the bus and attacked an officer, injuring his fingers.

The officer sustained severe fractures and significant blood loss, requiring emergency surgery and operative reconstruction of two fingers.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the attack, describing it as a direct affront to lawful authority.

He confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend and prosecute the assailant.

“The agency remains committed to upholding traffic laws and public safety,” Bakare-Oki said, warning drivers that violent resistance will not be tolerated.
