At least three United States military aircraft reportedly landed in Nigeria between Thursday and Friday, touching down at military facilities in Borno State and other parts of the North-East as part of ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and the US.

A senior military officer explained that such flights are not unusual, noting that ammunition and equipment are often replenished after major operations.

“I know that recently US aircraft came to supply ammunition for our platforms, and that wasn’t the first time. So what you are saying may be true, though I have not been officially briefed,” the officer said.
“We go for operations and use different calibres of ammunition, which need to be replaced.”

The officer added that the Nigerian government and the US are working closely under the coordination of the National Security Adviser to tackle insecurity nationwide.

“The US and the Nigerian government are working together to end insecurity in the country. So, we should expect more deployments of aircraft and troops,” he stated.

According to a report by The New York Times, US military aircraft landed in Maiduguri on Thursday night. By Friday evening, three planes were reportedly sighted at the military base, with equipment being offloaded from at least one of them.

A US Department of Defence official was quoted as saying:

“These initial flights are the vanguard of what will be a stream of C-17 transport flights into three main locations across Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, a post on 𝕏 by a counter-terrorism reporter claimed that a US Air Force C-30J transport aircraft landed at Kaduna International Airport after departing from Ghana.

The post suggested that the Kaduna Depot could potentially serve as a training hub for US personnel working alongside the Nigerian military, signalling a possible deepening of US–Nigeria security engagement amid ongoing regional security challenges.
