The first group of 200 United States military personnel has arrived in Nigeria to assist the nation’s forces in ongoing counter-terrorism operations, a Sahel security expert, Brant Philip, revealed on Sunday via X.
According to Philip, the US troops will provide training, advisory support, and intelligence analysis to their Nigerian counterparts.

They will also oversee the steady delivery of ammunition and equipment, primarily intended for the Nigerian Air Force.
Three US military aircraft landed at the Nigerian Air Force base in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Sunday.
Additional transport flights are expected at multiple locations, including Maiduguri and Kainji Airbases, with Maiduguri being prioritized.
Nigerian officials emphasized that the deployed US forces are not engaging in combat but are focused on capacity-building, intelligence support, and logistical assistance for Nigerian security operations.
