Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has assured supporters of his readiness to contest the 2027 presidential election, declaring that no obstacle would stop him from being on the ballot.
Obi made the declaration in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during the Obidient Conference and his official declaration on the platform of the African Democratic Congress.

The event, themed “Activating the PO Effect in ADC,” attracted supporters from across the country.
Addressing the gathering, Obi urged Nigerians to unite with him to rescue the country for future generations, warning that prolonged poor governance would continue to harm young people if not urgently addressed.
“We must come together to save Nigeria for our children. They will suffer the consequences of bad governance if we fail to act now,” he said.
Obi alleged that he had credible information suggesting that the Federal Government does not want him to contest the election, but insisted that such resistance would not deter him.
“I will contest even if the election is held in their bedroom,” he declared.
The former Anambra State governor also criticised the current administration over Nigeria’s rising debt profile, claiming that more loans have been taken under the present government than under previous administrations combined.
According to him, many of the loans are scheduled to be repaid between 2045 and 2050.
“By that time, most of those who plunged Nigeria into this debt would have left the stage,” he said.
Explaining his decision to leave the Labour Party, Obi said he was informed that as long as he remained in the party, the Independent National Electoral Commission would not recognise its leadership.
“I left the Labour Party when I was told that INEC would not recognise its leadership and that the Federal Government doesn’t want me on the ballot,” he said.
“But I want to assure you that I will contest the coming election. If they don’t want to transmit the results, we will transmit it for them.”
Obi stressed that Nigeria must get the 2027 elections right, insisting that results should be transmitted online in real time to ensure transparency.
He also outlined key priorities of his proposed administration, promising heavy investment in education and healthcare.
“Most great nations became great because they invested intentionally in education,” he said, adding that reducing poverty would also help curb criminality.
The presidential aspirant further pledged to tour all parts of the country, including higher institutions, to understand challenges firsthand.
“I want to help fix Nigeria now that I still have the strength to do difficult things,” Obi said.
“Anyone joining this movement must understand that it is about the future and well-being of the people.”
