According to the prosecution, El-Rufai admitted his involvement while appearing on Arise TV’s Prime Time programme on February 3.
Count one alleges that the act contravenes Section 12(1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
In count two, the government accused him of failing to notify security agencies despite allegedly knowing that the NSA’s communication had been unlawfully intercepted.
The third count claims that by using technical equipment to intercept Ribadu’s calls, the defendants endangered public safety and national security, contrary to Section 131(2) of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
El-Rufai, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, is described in the charge as a prominent opposition figure.
