The victims, Bognou Alice, her niece Sandra, and another woman, were kidnapped on November 10, 2025, while travelling for business. Police investigations revealed that the abductors collected ransom from their families before killing them.
Following weeks of intensive search operations, the bodies of Alice and Sandra were later recovered from the Omambala River in Anambra West.
Ikenga identified the newly arrested suspects as Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, popularly known as Ugoebenajah, who is alleged to be a chief priest of a shrine, alongside Nwabunne Bright, Chinecherem Chiama, and Michael Ekwunife.
According to the police, the arrests were made on February 13, 2026, during a coordinated operation at a shrine in Nando community, located in Anambra East Local Government Area.
“The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four additional suspects in connection with the murder of three Cameroonian nationals in the state,” Ikenga said.
“The suspects, all males, include the alleged chief priest of a shrine, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, also known as Ugoebenajah, aged 27, alongside Nwabunne Bright (27), Chinecherem Chiama (21), and Michael Ekwunife (38).”
He added that the operation led to the recovery of two pump-action guns, a locally made Beretta pistol, a machete, assorted charms, expanded ammunition, ten live cartridges, and five rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Ikenga explained that the breakthrough was achieved after operatives of the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu acted swiftly on information obtained from earlier confessions, leading them to the shrine where the suspects were hiding.
Police assured that investigations are ongoing and that all those involved in the crime will be brought to justice.
