However, the government commended traders at the Electrical Parts Dealers Market in Obosi for complying with its directive to open on Mondays.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Special Adviser on Markets, Evarist Uba, led a monitoring team to assess compliance levels across key commercial hubs.

During the inspection, Uba noted a high level of activity at the Obosi Electrical Parts Market, describing it as a positive shift from the prolonged Monday shutdowns that have disrupted economic activities in the state.

“The Obosi Electrical Parts Market is a key hub for electrical components in the Southeast, and I’m happy to see a significant level of activity,” Uba said.

He added, “The government of Anambra State, under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, is highly impressed by the courage and patriotism displayed by the electrical parts dealers in Obosi, as 80 percent of the market is open.”

Uba described the traders’ action as a show of confidence in the government’s efforts to restore peace and revive the state’s economy.

At the Building Materials Market in Ogidi, shops found under lock and key were sealed, with authorities warning that they would remain closed for two weeks.

Market leaders who addressed the monitoring team pledged support for the state government’s position.

Chairman of the Electrical Parts Dealers Association, Obosi, Chike Onunkwo, alongside President of the International Building Materials Market, Ogidi, Chief Jude Nwankwo, praised the improved security presence.

They urged traders to reciprocate the government’s commitment by supporting efforts to rebuild the state’s economy.

Other members of the monitoring committee included Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor; Special Adviser on Security, AVM Ben Chiobi (rtd); and the Governor’s Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime.

The team also visited major markets in Nnewi and Onitsha as enforcement of the Monday trading directive continues across the state.
