- Abia APC declares Tinubu sole presidential candidate for 2027
- Party adopts Benjamin Kalu as Abia APC leader
- Stakeholders cite growing membership strength in the state
- Kalu pledges unity, peace, and electoral victories
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has unanimously endorsed Bola Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached on Sunday during a Stakeholders’ Pre-Congress meeting held by the party, where members also unanimously adopted the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, as the Abia State leader of the APC.

The motion endorsing Kalu was moved by former senator Dr. Nkechi Nwaogu and received unanimous approval from party stakeholders present at the meeting.
Accepting the role, Kalu pledged to lead the Abia APC with unity, peace, and collective purpose, stressing that the party must remain focused on winning elections at all levels.
He explained that his decision to accept the leadership position was influenced by the absence of a sitting APC governor in the state, as well as the inability of the next highest-ranking party office holder to provide leadership due to consistent absence from party activities.
Addressing party members at his residence in Bende, Kalu praised the ongoing APC membership registration exercise, describing it as successful and impactful across the state.
According to him, APC membership in Abia State has now grown to over 160,000 registered members, with the number still rising.
Kalu said the surge in membership has debunked claims that the APC lacks visibility or structure in Abia, adding that the party is now well-positioned to secure at least 25 per cent of the votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
As preparations begin for the election of party executives at the ward, local government, and state levels, Kalu disclosed that ward congresses are scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
He added that nomination forms have already been obtained and will be distributed immediately to aspirants, noting that completed forms must be returned on the spot.
According to him, elected executives emerging from the congresses will be formally inaugurated at the ward, local government, and state levels.
Emphasising unity, Kalu said the mandate of all party executives would be to work towards securing a second term for President Tinubu, warning that there is no room for factionalism within the Abia APC.
“Anyone promoting factionalism is not and cannot be a member of the party,” he said.
