Haruna explained that the victims had briefly left the mining site for morning prayers at about 5:30 a.m. However, upon returning around 6:30 a.m., they were exposed to the deadly gas.
According to him, the absence of an early rescue response worsened the situation, as those scheduled to resume work later in the morning had not yet arrived at the site when the leak occurred.
He added that funeral prayers for the deceased miners are currently ongoing in the community, as residents mourn the tragic loss.
