The youngest son of late Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, Bellarmine Mugabe, has been arrested following the shooting of a gardener at his residence in a wealthy suburb north of Johannesburg, South Africa.

Police confirmed two men were detained on charges of attempted murder. Photographs circulated by IOL News showed Mugabe in handcuffs being escorted by officers.

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi stated the motive behind the shooting is unknown, and investigations are ongoing.

The victim remains in critical condition.

Bellarmine and his older brother, Robert Jr., are known to split time between Johannesburg and Zimbabwe. Both have been involved in prior controversies; in 2019, Grace Mugabe, their mother, faced multiple assault allegations, and Robert Jr. was charged with possession of cannabis in Harare last year.
