INEC had earlier announced that the three political parties would not participate in the February 21 by-election in Rivers State, citing unspecified reasons.

Reacting, the former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP questioned the criteria used in barring the parties from the poll.

“I strongly believe the question Nigerians should ask now is this: why were major political parties disqualified from participating in the election?” he said. “How can political parties be disqualified in this manner? Nigerians deserve clear explanations on the criteria applied and how the decisions were reached.”

George stressed that political parties remain central to democratic governance and must be given fair opportunity to participate in elections in line with the law.

He urged electoral authorities and stakeholders to uphold transparency, fairness and due process to strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
