According to the police spokesperson, Chiamaka allegedly confessed to conspiring with three of her friendsto fake her abduction in order to demand ransom money from her mother.

Edafe explained that the teenager admitted she was influenced by one of the friends who had previously extorted money from her own mother without facing any consequences.

“She confessed that they planned the fake kidnapping together and demanded ransom from her mother,” Edafe stated.

The police revealed that after the unsuspecting mother paid the ₦500,000 ransom, Chiamaka and her accomplices allegedly spent the money on shopping sprees, buying clothes and other personal items.

Further details showed that the girl lost her father at a young age and that her mother, a subsistence farmer, has been solely responsible for raising seven children, with Chiamaka being the youngest.

Reacting to the incident, Edafe used the opportunity to caution parents on the importance of proper upbringing and guidance.

“Parents should train and guide their children properly so they do not become a burden to their families and society,” he advised.

The case has since triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing deep concern over what they described as moral decline among youths and the growing trend of staged kidnappings for financial gain.
