The elections will be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is scheduled to hold area council elections across the six councils in the Federal Capital Territory.

INEC will also conduct bye-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, as well as Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.

President Tinubu encouraged eligible voters to participate in the polls without fear, stressing that democracy thrives in an environment of calm, tolerance and mutual respect.

He also appealed to political parties, candidates and their supporters to shun violence, hate speech and inflammatory actions capable of undermining the credibility of the elections.

The President issued a caution to security agencies, urging them to perform their duties professionally.

“Security agencies must avoid high-handedness or intimidation. Their responsibility is to protect lives and property while safeguarding the integrity of the ballot,” he said.

Tinubu further urged INEC to strengthen public trust by ensuring timely voter accreditation, smooth voting procedures, accurate collation of results and prompt transmission in line with the 2026 Electoral Act.

“Fellow Nigerians, I assure you that the Federal Government under my administration will continue to support institutions responsible for delivering free, fair and credible elections,” the statement read.

The President expressed confidence that the elections would reflect the will of the people and contribute to the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic process.
