Urges INEC, security agencies to ensure free, fair election
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Federal Capital Territory chapter, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led FCT Administration of attempting to undermine the will of residents in the ongoing Area Council elections.
In a statement signed by its FCT Publicity Secretary, Nwigbo Chukwudi Samuel, the party expressed “displeasure over the deliberate attempt being made by the APC-led administration of FCT to overturn the will of the FCT residents in this ongoing Area Councils polls.”

The ADC alleged that certain actions by the ruling party could weaken democratic processes.
“It is shameful that, rather than focus on policies that build and strengthen our democracy, the ruling party APC continues to indulge in activities that are detrimental to democracy,” the statement read, adding that such actions could discourage citizens eager for change from exercising their franchise.
The party called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure fairness and transparency throughout the electoral process.
“All election materials and personnel deployment must be on time. Efficient and sufficient number of vehicles to convey election workers must be made available. Failure of this amounts to deliberate voter suppression,” the ADC stated.

It also raised concerns over possible network disruptions and result uploads.
“The party hopes that mobile networks will not suddenly fail after the elections. Forms EC8A must be uploaded directly to the IReV portal from the polling unit,” the statement added.
On collation procedures, the ADC insisted that ward-level collation must take place at designated venues.
“On no account should ward collation of results be moved to INEC office at the Area Council directly from polling units,” it warned.
The party further urged security agencies to avoid intimidation of its agents and ensure that results are collated openly.
“Security agencies must avoid any act of intimidation and harassment of ADC party agents. Results must be collated at designated venues in the full glare of agents and observers,” the statement emphasised.
While acknowledging improvements in Nigeria’s electoral system, the ADC urged INEC to strictly adhere to its guidelines to safeguard the credibility of the FCT polls.
