At least nine people have been confirmed dead following a late evening attack on a relaxation spot in Doruwa Babuje community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, plunging residents into mourning.
According to TVC, the attack occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, when armed assailants stormed a popular relaxation spot in the community and opened fire before fleeing the area.

Eyewitnesses said the sudden attack caused panic as people ran for safety. Two other victims reportedly sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby health facility.
Confirming the incident, Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, described the attack as tragic and devastating, noting that the community has been left in deep shock.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Oteh, said security operatives responded swiftly after receiving a distress call.
According to him, investigations have commenced, while security presence in the area has been reinforced to restore calm and track down those responsible.
Plateau State has witnessed repeated attacks by gunmen in recent times, despite the deployment of security forces across affected communities.
Recall that last year, Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency on security, directing security agencies to intensify operations and recruit more personnel to tackle rising insecurity nationwide.
Residents of Doruwa Babuje are now calling for sustained security measures to prevent further violence.
