The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, has ordered an investigation into lapses recorded during the Federal Capital Territory elections, warning that staff found responsible will be sanctioned.
Amupitan said the probe would focus on reported shortfalls in Kuje and Kabusa, where challenges were observed during the conduct of the polls.

He also disclosed that transporters involved in delays that affected the movement of election materials to Kwali would be blacklisted.
“Those responsible for these shortcomings will be investigated, and anyone found guilty will be punished,” the INEC chairman said.
Amupitan spoke on Wednesday while reviewing the outcome of the FCT elections at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners held at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting came four days after the conduct of the Federal Capital Territory council elections and by-elections in Rivers State and Kano State.
Beyond assessing the conduct of the recent polls, the session is expected to provide a platform for resident electoral commissioners to share feedback on challenges encountered and discuss preparations for the 2027 general election.
All Resident Electoral Commissioners from the 36 states and the FCT were invited to the meeting.
Also present was the forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions, who paid a courtesy visit to the INEC chairman.
The leader of the delegation said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with INEC to improve the conduct of local government elections across the country.
