The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has recovered equipment allegedly capable of tapping conversations and sensitive security documents from the Abuja home of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The commission obtained a 14-day detention order from a Magistrate Court in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory, which is set to expire on Thursday.

The commission denied allegations of arbitrary detention, stating that El-Rufai’s detention followed due process. ICPC is investigating allegations of corrupt practices during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor

El-Rufai has filed a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against ICPC, claiming unlawful invasion of his Abuja residence. The anti-graft agency has asked the court to dismiss the suit, arguing that it is in the public interest to allow investigations to continue.

The ICPC also alleged that El-Rufai’s aide, linked to the investigation, has fled the country, and that potential witnesses are being intimidated.
