A commercial driver whose colleague was among those affected said the attackers targeted multiple vehicles during the incident.
According to him, at least three vehicles were ambushed during the attack.
“The vehicle operates along the Kishi–Ibadan route. They attacked three vehicles and took about eight passengers away,” the driver said.
Two additional sources also confirmed that the attack occurred, raising fresh concerns about security along the Kishi–Ibadan road.
One resident said unusual security activity was noticed the following morning, including aircraft flying over the town.
“I saw aircraft hovering around Kishi on Thursday morning. That is not something we normally see here. It was very unusual,” the resident said.
Sources further revealed that local vigilante groups have since mobilised and moved into nearby forests to search for the abducted passengers.
Kishi, which serves as the headquarters of Irepo Local Government Area in the northern part of Oyo State, has reportedly been gripped by tension as residents await further updates.
When contacted, the Oyo State Police Command said it had not yet received official information regarding the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, briefly responded:
“I don’t have an update about that.”
As of the time this report was filed, neither the Oyo State government nor security agencies had released an official statement regarding the Kishi–Ibadan road attack.
The latest incident has heightened fears among residents, coming barely two months after gunmen attacked the old National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, located in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
During that attack, armed men reportedly stormed the facility on motorcycles and launched a coordinated nighttime operation.
Reports indicated that at least five staff members were killed during the assault, while suspected criminals previously detained by forest guards were allegedly freed by the attackers.
