Insurgency: Ndume Confirms Killing Of Scores, Abduction Of Others In Borno

The senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has confirmed that scores of civilians, soldiers and insurgents were killed after suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters attacked Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Ndume disclosed that the insurgents stormed the community on Tuesday evening, killing the Chief Imam, some elders and soldiers during the assault, while more than 100 residents remain missing.

According to the lawmaker, thousands of civilians—mostly women and children—have fled the area and are currently taking refuge in Pulka community following the attack.

He noted that Operation Hadin Kai, the Joint Task Force operating in the North-East, later neutralised several fleeing terrorists through its air component.

Ndume, however, lamented that the insurgents overran the military base in the community, destroying key equipment and burning houses and property worth millions of naira.

The senator called for a sustained military offensive in Sambisa Forest and the Mandara Mountains, urging the Federal Government under Bola Ahmed Tinubu to equip security agencies with advanced weapons, including fighter jets and mine-resistant vehicles.

He also alleged that troops at the frontline lack adequate equipment, while terrorists continue to deploy sophisticated weapons such as rocket-propelled grenades, anti-aircraft machine guns and drones in their attacks.
