NDLEA Arrests Ex-Lagos Councillor with 40kg Skunk, Seizes Drugs Nationwide

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former councillor in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, for alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

The suspect, Sheleru Olalekan, 45, who previously served two terms representing Orimedu community and currently works as a legislative aide, was arrested at his residence in Ilado on March 2, 2026.

During a search of his home, NDLEA operatives recovered 40 kilograms of skunk cannabis.

The suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the drugs and the property where they were found.

In another operation in the Federal Capital Territory, a 32-year-old businessman, Emeka Hyginus Okwor, was intercepted while travelling from Obollo-Afor, Enugu State, to Zuba, Abuja. Officers discovered 1,000 tapentadol 250mg pills concealed inside baby diapers.

The suspect confessed that he was transporting the consignment to Guduwa village in Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State, where he operates a provision store.

On the same day, NDLEA operatives intercepted a consignment of 1.55kg of Colorado, a synthetic strain of cannabis, hidden in a standing fan carton.

The suspect, Mey Ali Muhamat, 36, a Cameroonian from Maroua, was travelling by commercial bus from Lagos to Cameroon via Lokoja, Kano, and Maiduguri.

In Niger State, officers intercepted a bus carrying 500 improvised explosive device components along the Mokwa–Jebba road. The intended recipient, Osama Abdullahi, 21, was later arrested in Pelegi, Mashegu Local Government Area.

In Adamawa State, NDLEA recovered 122,000 tramadol pills and 700 grams of methamphetamine hidden in a truck carrying local drinks in Yola. In Kano State, a 20-year-old, Muhammed Ali, was arrested with 11,283 tramadol pills at Gadar Tamburawa.

Two suspects, Nazifi Mudansir and Kabiru Musa, were arrested in Ogere, Ogun State, with 46 kilograms of skunk cannabis. In Delta State, Joy Chukwuma (25) and Eugene Felix (22) were apprehended in Ogwashi-Uku with 18.63kg of skunk, 10.8 litres of codeine syrup, and 4,268 pills of tramadol and swinol.

NDLEA operatives also destroyed 1,910.25kg of skunk on two farms in Egbisi Forest, Uhumwonde Local Government Area, Edo State, where Eke London (48) and Austin Isusi (49) were arrested. Another suspect, Alaba Adeboye (47), was apprehended in Ikhin town, Owan East Local Government Area, with 176.5kg of skunk.

The agency said its commands across the country are continuing the War Against Drug Abuse campaign, including sensitisation programmes in schools and communities in Oyo, Niger, Zamfara, Lagos, Sokoto, Ebonyi, and Anambra states.

NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers for the arrests and seizures, urging them to sustain the agency’s balanced approach to drug control nationwide.
