The flag of the Peoples Democratic Party has been removed from the Zamfara State Government House in Gusau, following the announcement that the state government had defected to the All Progressives Congress.

The development occurred shortly after the Deputy Governor, Malan Mani Mummuni, declared his defection to the APC on behalf of the state government.

Mummuni was elected alongside Governor Dauda Lawal under the platform of the PDP during the 2023 general elections.

However, the governor is currently in Saudi Arabia performing the Lesser Hajj and had handed over state affairs to the deputy governor in acting capacity.

Earlier during a State Executive Council meeting, the acting governor reportedly informed cabinet members that PDP stakeholders in the state had concluded plans to join the ruling APC.

Following the announcement, Mummuni held a closed-door meeting with members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly at the Government House in Gusau.

Confirming the development, Salihu Anka, Director General of Media and Communications at Government House, said the cabinet of Governor Lawal had defected to the APC.
