FCT minister rejects proposal for a new caretaker committee ahead of party convention.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that his camp is firmly in control of the political machinery of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike made the statement on Wednesday during the party’s 106th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.

His comments followed a recent judgment by the Court of Appeal which nullified the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025.
The development also came after a ruling by the Federal High Court in Ibadan affirming the leadership of the National Caretaker Working Committee headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed.
Wike maintained that although his faction remained open to reconciliation within the party, it would only engage from a position of strength.

Addressing the Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, the minister urged party members advocating reconciliation to present clear and sincere proposals.
He also dismissed claims that his role in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress made him a “mole” within the opposition party.
According to Wike, many of his critics had already defected to the ruling party while he remained a member of the PDP.
Speaking on the party’s planned national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, Wike said preparations had been concluded and rejected any suggestion to establish another caretaker committee to resolve internal disputes.
He added that while aggrieved members were free to seek redress at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, his faction remained confident of retaining the upper hand in the ongoing legal and political battle within the party.
