The investigation is being conducted by the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency, the regulatory body responsible for monitoring and accrediting healthcare facilities across the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the agency, Abiola Idowu, confirmed the development in a statement issued on March 12, 2026.

Idowu explained that the investigation was initiated following reports circulating on social media suggesting that the woman developed complications after undergoing the aesthetic procedure.

Although the clinic where the surgery was carried out is reportedly registered with HEFAMAA, the agency emphasised that registration does not exempt any facility from investigation when concerns about patient safety arise.

According to the statement, cosmetic and aesthetic surgical procedures in Lagos are regulated by specific standards that cover facility requirements, professional qualifications of practitioners, and patient safety protocols.

The agency noted that it has begun a comprehensive review of the incident to determine whether the clinic and the medical personnel involved complied with existing regulations.

Authorities also advised residents who wish to undergo cosmetic procedures to ensure they patronise accredited health facilities and qualified medical professionals.

The outcome of the investigation is expected to determine whether there were any violations of medical guidelines or safety standards in the case.
