According to the The Royal Family, the evening featured traditional Nigerian cuisine, including jollof rice, as well as live music performances by Dele Sosimi and the Afrobeats Orchestra.
In a post on its official X account on Thursday, the Royal Family described the gathering as a memorable occasion.
“Last night, The King hosted a reception with members of the Nigerian diaspora in the UK, ahead of the incoming State Visit of the President of Nigeria.
“With jollof rice and music by Dele Sosimi and the Afrobeats Orchestra — it was a wonderful evening. Thank you to everyone who joined us.”
President Tinubu and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, are expected to travel to the United Kingdom as guests of King Charles III and Queen Camilla from March 18 to March 19, 2026.
The visit will mark the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years.
The last Nigerian leader to undertake such a visit was Ibrahim Babangida, who travelled to Britain in 1989 and was hosted for four days by Queen Elizabeth II.
Ahead of Tinubu’s arrival, British authorities have also announced security arrangements around Windsor, where part of the state visit activities are expected to take place.
The measures are being coordinated by Thames Valley Police in collaboration with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to ensure a safe and orderly visit.
