Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga, who plays for Norwegian club Molde FK, came under legal scrutiny following a case in Norway involving a sexual act carried out without consent.

In March 2026, the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court reportedly sentenced the 19-year-old to six months in prison over an incident said to have occurred in April 2025.

Despite the ruling, Daga’s legal representatives maintained that the encounter was consensual and subsequently filed an appeal challenging the judgment.

The case has drawn significant attention within football circles due to Daga’s rising profile as a Nigerian youth international.

Former Nigerian youth international Akinkunmi Amoo was convicted in Denmark in a high-profile sexual assault case involving three women.

In June 2023, the Copenhagen District Court sentenced the winger to one year in prison after finding him guilty of rape in a sexual relationship other than intercourse, attempted rape and other sexual violations.

The incidents occurred in 2022 while Amoo was playing for Danish side F.C. Copenhagen.

The conviction significantly disrupted his football career, as he had previously been regarded as one of Nigeria’s most promising young players after representing the Nigeria U-17 national team at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Innocent Adewale

In Nigeria, another case dates back to 2018 involving footballer Innocent Adewale.

The player was arraigned before the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over allegations that he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old boy he was reportedly coaching.
