Benue State experienced a deadly attack on March 13, 2026, when suspected armed herders stormed cashew farms in Asaba, Ojantele, and Okpette communities while farmers were at work.
The early morning raid left six people dead, according to a statement from DSP Udeme Edet, Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command.

A coordinated response involving the Nigeria Police Force, military personnel, and local volunteers quickly moved into nearby forests to locate victims and track the attackers.
The Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, confirmed that additional security personnel had been deployed to reinforce ongoing operations and ensure a more organized manhunt.

Security patrols across affected communities and other parts of the state have been intensified to prevent further attacks and reassure residents of the commitment of security agencies to protect lives and property.
Authorities have also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and share useful information that could assist in the investigation.
