Police, NSCDC Launch Probe Into Death of Civil Defence Volunteer in Kano

The Kano State Police Command and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have launched a joint investigation into the death of a Civil Defence volunteer during a palliative distribution programme in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Friday during a Ramadan and Sallah empowerment programme organised by Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed that the police had begun an investigation in collaboration with other security agencies.

“The Kano State Police Command received a report of the death of a Civil Defence personnel who lost his life during an attack by hoodlums at an empowerment programme held in Tudun Wada LGA on March 13, 2026,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the Ibrahim Bakori has ordered a discreet investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The victim was reportedly rushed to Tudun Wada General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. His remains were later deposited at the morgue of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

The NSCDC Kano State Command also confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased as well as residents of Tudun Wada.

Speaking on the development, the Corps Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the command had commenced its own investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

“Yes, it is true. Consequently, the Commandant has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. When we are done, we will release a press statement with full details,” he said.

The police urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.

Authorities also assured the public that every effort would be made to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
