- Lagos PDP criticises APC-led government over economic hardship
- Party says ruling party focuses on propaganda instead of governance
- Statement issued by PDP spokesperson Christopher Odianarewo
- PDP insists it is repositioning ahead of future elections
The Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State has criticised the All Progressives Congress-led government at both the state and federal levels, accusing it of poor governance while Nigerians struggle with rising economic hardship.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Christopher Odianarewo, the opposition party responded to recent remarks made by APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo.

Odianarewo described the comments as “unsolicited commentary”, urging the ruling party to concentrate on governance rather than interfering in the internal affairs of opposition parties.
He said it was ironic for the APC to focus on the PDP while, according to him, Nigerians are currently facing one of the most difficult economic periods in the country’s history.
“The APC in Lagos and at the centre should be more concerned with addressing the hardship faced by Nigerians rather than interfering in the affairs of the PDP,” the statement said.

Criticism of Governance
The PDP accused the ruling party of presiding over economic challenges that have worsened the cost of living and reduced the ability of many Nigerians to afford basic necessities.
According to the opposition party, public resources in Lagos State have not been effectively used to improve infrastructure and social welfare, alleging that governance has largely benefited a select political elite.
The statement also pointed to what it described as institutional decline, citing persistent traffic congestion, deteriorating roads and rising living costs as signs of governance shortcomings.

Political Positioning
The PDP further dismissed APC claims about divisions within opposition parties, arguing that such comments were intended to divert attention from governance challenges.
“If the APC had spent half the energy it uses monitoring the PDP on actually governing Lagos State, many of the challenges confronting residents would have been addressed,” Odianarewo said.
Despite the criticism, the opposition party maintained that it is repositioning itself to offer Nigerians an alternative political platform ahead of future elections.
