Residents of Bargaja village in Isa Local Government Area have reportedly fled their homes following a surge in attacks by suspected bandits believed to be loyal to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.

The mass displacement occurred despite the ongoing observance of Ramadan, with several families abandoning their homes and relocating to neighbouring communities in search of safety.

A video circulating online showed residents leaving the village in groups, loading belongings into vehicles as they evacuated the troubled community amid fears of further attacks.

A security analyst, Bakatsine, said villagers were forced to flee due to persistent assaults by armed bandits.

According to him, the attacks have become almost daily occurrences, resulting in repeated killings and kidnappings of residents.

“Residents are fleeing because armed bandits attack their community almost every day, killing and kidnapping countless persons,” he said.

The development has heightened concerns over worsening insecurity across parts of north-west Nigeria, where armed bandit groups have continued to raid rural communities.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the Nigeria Police Force were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer in Sokoto State, Rufa’i Ahmed, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing the report.
