Troops Arrest Suspected Gunrunner Supplying Arms to Terrorists Along Kwara–Kogi Axis

Nigerian troops have arrested a suspected gunrunner believed to be supplying weapons to terrorist groups operating along the Kwara–Kogi corridor, in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria, working with the Office of the National Security Adviser tactical team, have arrested a suspected key gunrunner accused of supplying arms to terrorists operating along the Kwara–Kogi axis.

According to the Defence Media Operations director, Michael Onoja, the suspect was apprehended on March 14, 2026, at Agwatashi in Obi Local Government Area.

Security operatives recovered a large quantity of ammunition and cash during the arrest.

In a related operation, the Department of State Services intercepted a female courier in Kano Statecarrying 884 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

Authorities described the development as a major inter-agency success in disrupting terrorist supply chains.

Further operations also led to the arrest of suspected collaborators and armed individuals in Sokoto State, Kaduna State, and Kebbi State.

Onoja revealed that troops also arrested suspected informants linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group in Kebbi State.

In another operation on March 15, soldiers stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Kaiama Local Government Area arrested a suspect attempting to deliver three motorcycles intended for terrorist activities.

Intelligence operations later led to the arrest of two suspected members of Islamic State West Africa Province and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, who were reportedly waiting to collect the motorcycles.

Security forces also responded to reports of gunfire in Tungan Aliat Tato village in Kaduna Local Government Area on March 19.

Upon arrival, troops discovered that terrorists had already fled after aborting their attack due to the swift response from security personnel.

Onoja said several terrorists and criminal elements were neutralised during operations conducted between March 14 and March 19, while kidnapped victims were rescued and weapons recovered.

He commended the efforts of the troops and assured Nigerians that operations would continue.

“The successes recorded underscore the courage, professionalism, and resilience of our troops who remain committed to defending the nation,” he said.

Authorities also promised to intensify operations to dismantle remaining terrorist networks threatening national security.
