Nigeria insecurity toll: Bandits, Boko Haram, armed herdsmen kill over 190,000 — Intersociety

A human rights organisation says at least 190,150 Nigerians have been killed due to banditry, Boko Haram insurgency and armed herdsmen attacks in the last 17 years.

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) stated in its latest terrorism‑violence report that the figures cover attacks from July 2009 to March 19, 2026.

According to the group’s chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi, the casualties include about 128,750 Christians and 61,400 moderate Muslims killed in various violent incidents across the country.

Mr. Umeagbalasi said the updated documentations also show approximately 131,100 people were abducted, including 81,100 Christians and 50,000 moderate Muslims during the same period.

He added that 30,000 victims were taken and later killed in captivity at the peak of insurgency between 2009 and 2014.
