The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has praised Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for allocating 30 percent of the state’s 2026 budget to education, describing the move as a strong step toward improving teaching and learning.
Sanusi made the remarks during the traditional Sallah homage (Hawan Nassarawa) at the Kano Government House, part of activities celebrating Eid-el-Fitr.

According to the Emir, dedicating a significant portion of the budget to education shows the government’s commitment to building a better future for the state.
The Emir also stressed the importance of educating girls in Northern Nigeria, urging parents and husbands not to stop women from going to school.
He explained that empowering women through education is essential for the development of families and society.
Sanusi also spoke about his decision to return to school to study law at Northwest University, Kano.
He clarified that the decision was not related to legal issues but was meant to encourage others, especially people in leadership positions, to continue seeking knowledge.
According to him:
“Education comes before kingship. A king who acquires education attains greater dignity, but a king without education is entirely a worthless king.”
In his response, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly Ismail Jibrin Falgore, called on residents to maintain peace and unity during and after the Sallah celebrations.
He urged citizens to avoid actions that could threaten the stability of the state and encouraged parents to guide their children to behave responsibly.
The governor also reassured residents that his administration remains committed to protecting lives and property across Kano State.
