The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted Chukwunyere Nwabuoku, sentencing him to 72 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
Justice James Omotosho ruled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission successfully proved the nine-count money laundering charges beyond reasonable doubt.
Nwabuoku was accused of diverting funds while serving as Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Defence between 2019 and 2021.

The judge described his actions as “appalling” and commended the EFCC for thorough prosecution.
Each of the nine counts carries eight years imprisonment, to run concurrently. Evidence presented showed that Nwabuoku voluntarily returned over N200 million during the investigation.
The defendant had been granted bail of N500 million with two sureties when he was arraigned on January 15, 2025. The EFCC had filed the charges under case number FHC/ABJ/CR/240/2024.
