The National Assembly witnessed a chaos as Legislative Aides disrupted legislative activities at the parliament, protesting against the non-payment of their salaries, minimum wage and duty tour allowance, among many other grievances.

The Federal Lawmakers who were scheduled to resume today after a 19-day Easter recess, were prevented by the aggrieved workers from accessing the chamber, chanting solidarity songs.

Though the lawmakers were able able to access the chambers, proper day-to-day activity could not hold as a result of the Aides.

A moment of silence was observed to respect the demise of two members of the National Assembly – Hon. Haruna Maitala, who represented Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency and Hon. Suleiman Aliyu, who represented Lere Federal Constituency in House of Representative.

After about 17 minutes of Legislative activity, the Senate Leader moved for plenary to be adjourned to another legislative day and was seconded by the Senate’s minority leader.

Plenary was thereafter adjourned to Wednesday, 14th April, 2021.

Recall that staff of the National Assembly had threatened to go on an indefinite strike on Tuesday if their demands were not met by the management of the Assembly.
