Alfie Lewis wishes for Europe after joining St Pats

For over a decade, The Saints midfielder had been at the Premier League club before a loan move to Inchicore in February, which has since been permanent from West Ham.

How has Alfie’s Journey been?

He spent over a decade in the premier league. A loan in February which has been made permanent until the end of the season

Before he joined the league of Ireland,  he played mainly youth and U23 football in England. Alfie explained how playing in the regular senior competitive football in the League of Ireland affected him positively. It has improved him as a player. Being away from home has also affected him positively.

“It was hard as I’d been there since I was eight or nine years old,” said the 21-year-old.

Alfie shared that he has been with West Ham since his childhood years. He shared a heartbreaking goodbye. It happened when his contract at the London Stadium wasn’t renewed in the summer.

“When you leave, it’s a sad thing. But you know it’s going to happen to a lot of boys. You have to move away to play men’s football.” said Alfie.

Alfie said he knows that being released by a big club has its downside but is fully aware that being released by a big team is seen as a professional setback.  He said that to him, it is just football. He would like to focus on his career and get back to playing at the highest level he possibly can.

What Alfie said about his move

He shared that the move has been the best thing for him. Moving into a new environment has benefitted him a lot and helped him for the future, mentally.

“It’s next door to England and it’s similar,” said Alfie.

He said, for now, he is mostly concerned with the present. He said helping St Pat’s challenge champions Shamrock Rovers in the league and giving the FAI Cup their best shot are the twin targets at Richmond Park.

“I’ve enjoyed it,” said Lewis of his time in Inchicore ahead of this evening’s home clash with bottom side Longford Town.

He said that Stephen (O’Donnell, head coach) has been good to him. The boys on his team have been awesome; the club has been great. That was the reason why he wanted to come back until the end of the season and enjoy his football, enjoying his sport is the main goal.
