The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Bayero University Kano Chapter has threatened to file a lawsuit against the Department of State Services for assaulting one of its members, Professor Abdulkadir Muhammad.

The Kano Zonal Coordinator was reportedly assaulted by the DSS on August 18, on his way to the Union’s National Executive Council assignment in Katsina.

The act of the DSS hence objurgated a statement signed by Proffesor Haruna Musa and Musa Umar Madugu, the Chairperson and Secretary of BUK respectively.

The statement reads in part;

“Alas, DSS operative are notorious for crass violation of fundamental human rights of innocent Nigerians through torture and assaults. ”

“We recall that sometime in 2012, they invaded ASUU-BUK secretariat at Old Campus and assaulted our then ASUU Kano Zonal Coordinator and immediate past branch Chairperson in their attempt to abduct him.”

“Therefore, we urge the DSS to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book in order to stop the anarchy, torture and harassment of innocent Nigerians. The union is ready to deploy all the available legal and legitimate instruments to ensure that justice is done on the matter,” the statement added.
