After a video of his sermon criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari (retd) went viral, Muhammad Khalid became a social media trending topic. SOLOMON ODENIYI, an Islamic preacher, says in this interview that he stands by his statement that the president is not doing well.

You were seen harshly criticizing the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, in a video of one of your sermons that just went viral (retd). What exactly is it about his rule that irritates you?

The country’s condition prompted this, and I’m moving in the correct path since my religion demands that I am just, and I must. I am a hypocrite if I stated things like this during the (Goodluck) Jonathan administration and now refuse to repeat them because I share the President’s religious and ethical views. We are all Nigerians, in my opinion, and we all deserve to live in peace.

I feel that a great deal has to be done in this country, and that it needs to be done quickly. I visited Rwanda and witnessed the events there. We are literally playing with fire in Nigeria. People are dying on a daily basis as a result of the country’s killings, which are taking the form of genocide. This administration has killed more individuals than the preceding administration. Make your investigation and compare it to the number of individuals slain during the previous regime. The imam said

In the video, you told the President to return the country to how he met it in 2015, but his supporters would disagree and tell you that Buhari has done well in the fight against terrorism. Do you still maintain your call?

This dictatorship has been deceiving the public by claiming that security has improved. Where is the progress when our children are unable to attend school in some regions of the country and some states are controlled by bandits? A serving governor’s convoy was targeted in the North-East, in particular.
Just a few states have been under Boko Haram’s control back then (during Jonathan’s presidency). Tell me how many states in the country are safe. Even Buhari’s home state of Katsina is not safe. Kankara Local Government Area is in his state, and there are roughly five local governments in Zamfara State that have been declared no-go zones. In Borno State, there are few spots where you can’t go without being escorted. Other regions are also dealing with insecurity in one form or another. Unknown gunmen are inflicting devastation if it isn’t bandits. Let us tell him the truth: it (insecurity) is worse under him (Buhari). Allow him to return us to 2015 if he is unable to improve.

Bandits did not operate in the same way they do now before he took office. During the previous administration, how many schools were assaulted and how many students were kidnapped? Consider how we cried out when the Chibok girls were kidnapped. How many have we seen under Buhari, and we aren’t pleading with him to return our schoolchildren and put an end to the scourge? Can you tell someone in Kaduna, Zamfara, or elsewhere that things are getting better? Many of these people have no peace of mind, and you call that an improvement? A lawmaker in Katsina State said he cannot go to his constituency because he is afraid of being attacked; and he is not alone; many of these people have no peace of mind, and you call that an improvement?
