Suspected bandits have attacked the federal correctional centre in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Daily Report Nigeria can confirm.

The gunmen invaded the centre in large numbers in an attack that sprang through Sunday night and through Monday morning.

The gunmen reportedly killed the military operatives that kept guide on the road before attacking the centre.

The bandits further launched an attack on officers at the center, before setting the inmates free.

A heavy downpour in the early hours of Monday further aided the prisoners to escape as the building was submerged by flood.

About 100 inmates have since been rearrested, while an unspecified number voluntarily returned.
