Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU).
The 57-year-old academic who was born in Lagos on April 23, 1964, becomes the second female to occupy the exalted post.
Ibiyemi is the wife of Tunji Bello, current Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources only occupied the position as an acting VC.

Her appointment went public today in Gbenga Omotoso, the Lagos State Commissioner of Information’s statement titled, ‘Sanwo-Olu approves appointment of Vice Chancellor for LASU’.
Her selection followed the dismissal of the council of the institution by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos.
The state governor discharged the council for failure to abide by existing rules.
The appointment was however, an effort of several months’ s riveting selection process and the new appointee became the 9th person to have mounted the throne of LASU VC.
The newly appointee attended Anglican Girl Grammar School, Surulere, 1974-1979; Methodist Girls High School, Yaba; Lagos College of Science and Technology.

She also studied at the University of Ibadan, 1982-85; University of Lagos, 1987 and University of Texas, Health Science Centre, San Antonio, USA, 1994-1998.
She was an Assistant Lecturer, College of Medicine University of Lagos, Idi-Araba;
Confirming the appointment, Omotosho said, “Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Olusola-Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello as the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University.”
