The Senate of the University of Benin has approved that the N20,000 late registration fee be removed.

Proclamation of the removal was made in a statement by Mr Ademola Bobola, the school Registrar on the night of Thursday in Benin.

Recall that the school had earlier imposed the payment of such late registration fee.

The imposition had led to a two-day mass protest by students of the institution perhaps, reason behind the eventual removal of such fee.

At a virtual meeting, the senate looked into the following as Bobola noted;

“That the senate ratified the earlier verbal declaration by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lilian Salami.

“That the senate approved the decision that via modalities to be worked out by the Bursary Department, those who have paid for the late fee shall be refunded.

(NAN) also reported that Salami has verbally withdrawn the charge on Wednesday, saying students stormed her lodge and forced her to trek to the school main gate in the course of their protest.

Therefore, lectures are to resume on the 20th of September to enable students who obeyed the directive on school closure to return.

Bobola said, “The University’s decision-making body also agreed that a new time-line be set for the payment of the school charges for the 2020/2021 Academic Session.”

“It also directed that the re-activation of charges for Postgraduate Programmes be sent to the Board of Postgraduate S chool for review. ”
