The transgressions were said to have contradicted the Penal Code, Laws of Sokoto State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) disclosed the fact that the convicts had been previously charged on the 5th of Oct, 2020.

They, all residents of Sokoto were identified as Umar Abubakar, Aminu Yahatu-Tafida and Mas’ud Gidado.

ASP Samuel Sule, the prosecutor said that a resident of Bardon Barade, Sokoto reported the case.

Sule explained that a 16-year-old daughter of the plaintiff was beguiled to the Phoenix Guest Inn by one Hayatu-Tafida (a.k.a. Baffa) who had tabu sexual intercourse with her and recorded her nudity in an 18-second video clip.

Baffa’s conspiracy with his gang afterwards, thereby resulted in the circulation of such nude video on social media.

The resultant shame led to the cancelation of the victim’s wedding which was supposed to have held in Oct, 2020.

Despite the gravity of the offence, the court however tampered justice with mercy, by taking to the convict’s plea for leniency.

Shu’aibu Ahmad, the Chief Magistrate explained that he had been so lenient for reason of their being fisrt-time offenders.

On the basis of leniency, the judge had sentenced the convicts to two years imprisonment each for obscene and indecent act, with an option N200,000 fine.

He sentenced them to two years imprisonment each for sale and circulation of obscene materials, and six months imprisonment each for abatement, with N50,000 fine option for each of the offences.

Each of them was also asked to pay N100,000 compensation to the plaintiff.

Ahmad had finally desired that the punishment deters others from committing the same or related offence.
