According to the report, the police officers during a patrol in an off-campus students’ hostel said they perceived “weed” which led to the arrest of 6 students.

5 of the students were later released, leaving behind only the 18-year-old female student who was later raped.

The incident sparked a protest by the students who demanded an investigation into the case. During the protest, police officers fired shots into the air to dismiss the protesting students.
