Kylian Mbappe has disclosed details of the drama that overwhelmed his futile attempt to exit Paris Saint-Germain in the last transfer window.

The French International and PSG’s failure to reach a consensus forced him to extend his stay at the club instead of joining Madrid who were interested in the striker.

Mbappe said that he had shared his desire to leave the club in July and PSG sporting director Leonardo confirmed so.

The 22-year-old had been heavily linked with Real Madrid, who submitted multiple bids for his services with €160 million in the first place.

The fee was later increased to €180m and finally €200m on August 31 before the transfer window closed.

The Spanish giants’ final offer reportedly came in at over €220 million (£188m/$255m), but PSG refused to approve the striker’s departure despite his desire to leave.

Mbappe said via interview publised on Marca: “I asked to go and, from that moment, I didn’t want to renew. ”

“I wanted the club to accept a transfer for me so that they could receive some money and look for a quality replacement.”

“I told them early enough for the club to be able to react. My hope was that we could both benefit and find a good deal.”

“I didn’t like the belief that things would be done in the final week of August. I had told the club at the end of July that I wanted to go.”

“My position was clear. I said I wanted to go and I said it quite early.”

He added: “I have always been happy at the club in my four years here and I still am, even though I wasn’t able to depart this past summer,” he said debunking reports that he turned down over six offers to extend his contract at the Paris side. “
