The murder of two soldiers in a community in Oguta LGA of Imo has grieved the Imo state governor, Hope Uzodimma.

The soldiers alongside a resident were killed in a bicker which ensued between youths collecting money from illicit oil thieves and oil bunkerers in the area.

The governor has therefore condoled with the family of the slain in Owerri at Izombe community on Monday, 11th of October.

He also pledged to capture those involved, saying they would be arraigned for trial as soon as possible.

This was confirmed via a statement made available to newsmen in Owerri.

Eze Pius Muforo, the traditional ruler of Oborsi-Izombe bemoaned the dismantlement of over 70 houses, 25 motorcycles and 15 vehicles following the security maraud in the area.

That together with ruin caused to several crops by the said youths warranted the ruler’s pledge that the government would establish a panel of inquiry.

The panel according to him will investigate the causes of the incidence in addition to recommending ways to ensure that such incidence does not repeat itself.

The state governor loathing such a reaction from the youth who faced up the security patrol sent to the area stated thus;

“The recent happening has brought to the fore the earlier state’s directive that anybody, no matter how highly-placed, who is in possession of any weapon should return it to security agencies.”

“Regrettably, the time given for such has elapsed. Therefore, anybody still keeping any weapon runs the risk of being arrested and prosecuted and made to face the full weight of the law.”
