Woman Razes Husband’s House For Being Locked Out

A woman has been arraigned in court for burning down her husband’s house after she was locked out.

The woman, a Kenyan, identified as Esther Mummy Wabisa, was said to have arrived at Akila Estate in South C area, Nairobi, from her rural home in Bungoma on October 28, when the incident happened.

Court documents showed that Esther usually visit her husband during school holidays when the children were around.

However, when she arrived, she was turned away by the security agents who asked her to put a call through to her husband about her impromptu visit. Esther however claimed that she called him several times, but he never picked.

It was reported that Esther forcefully jumped over a fence to gain access to the building, and attacked her husband, by biting him on the bicep.

The assault prompted her husband to rush to a police station to report the assault case, and while her husband was at the police station, Esther lit up the house.

Fire extinguishers were brought in to put down the fire, but it had already razed down the house, and even affected a nearby house under construction.

Police however managed to retrieve a black bag that had a bus ticket from Bungoma to Nairobi dated October 28, which was believed to be that of the accused person. This led to her arrest and she was later on taken to court where she asked for leniency.

Her charge sheet read;

“Esther Mummy Wabisa willingly and unlawfully set two dwelling houses on fire worth Ksh4,821,200 the property of Tanzanian citizens namely Fulgence Gaspe Assenge and Stella Mkafitina Assenga where her husband was renting.”

The court has considered all the sentiments, granted her a bond of Ksh1 Million without alternative. The matter was adjourned to November 15.
