The West African Examination Council WAEC, has awarded the sum of N500,000 to 16-year-old Joy Abahi Amuh of St. Paul Secondary School, Otukpo, Benue State.
Joy was awarded the sum for emerging the best graduating (of Benue State origin) of the 2020 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The presentation was part of the sixth Annual Literacy Project organized by the Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), in partnership with the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC).

BIPC Group Managing Director Alex Adum pointed that the sum will help foster Miss Amuh’s educational pursuit, which was temporarily truncated by lack of funds.
He stressed that great academic feats should be rewarded handsomely, instead of pointing the focus on only persons in the entertainment industry.
Eunice Ortom, wife of the
Benue State Governor and founder of ESLF, congratulated Miss Amuh, and called on other girls to emulate her excellence.
Amuh expressed joy and profound gratitude to BIPC and ESLF for their kind gesture which, she said, would help nurture her dreams.
Mr. Peter Emaikwu, the Principal of St.Paul Secondary School, said Joy was a hardworking and dedicated student and was deserving of the award.
Although Joy graduated with a very beautiful result, she was unable to register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) owing to a lack of funds.
She teaches at a nursery and primary school with the hope to raise money to further her studies.
