The People’s Democratic Party in Zamfara has dragged the Zamfara state government to court, Daily Report Nigeria has learnt.

The suit challenges the Zamfara Uban Regional and Planning Board’s plan to demolish the Party’s state secretariat in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital.

Former Chief of Staff to the Zamfara State Government, Col. Bala Mande (rtd), said the move to demolish the secretariat of recognized political party is absolutely illegal in Nigeria.

Mande, who refused to follow Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle in decamping to the All Progressive Congress while addressing newsmen in Gusau, said;

“Which kind of country are we living in when a leading political party in Nigeria could not be allowed to exercise its constitutional responsibility simply because the APC is now overseeing the affairs of the state?

“The ruling party has been intimidating the party members and officials since the Governor and his supporters defected to APC.

“The PDP members are law-abiding citizens and we have approached a competent court to seek redress over the matter,” he said.

The former military Governor of Nassarawa State, however, urged supporters and members of the PDP to remain law-abiding and avoid taking the law into their hands.

In the suit filed before Zamfara High Court in Gusau, the PDP seeks the court to set aside the October 29, 2021 demolition notice issued by ZUREP and also declare it illegal.

The party also prayed the court to compel the defendant to pay the party the sum of N60 million as damages.
