Hoodlums bearing dangerous weapons on Monday invaded the venue of the Zamfara State Congress of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
The thugs were said to have gained access into the venue to disrupt the Congress that was jist about to get underway.
Daily Report Nigeria gathered that the hoodlums threw stones at members of the PDP already seated for the Congress, and beat up others.
Several cars, canopies, chairs, election materials and other properties were set ablaze in a bid to scare away eligible delegates for the election.
A member of the PDP, Musa Garba said, wondered why anybody would want to disrupt the Congress.
Lamenting over the incident, Musa said;
“We had scheduled our state congress to hold today (Monday) to enable us to elect the new state executive officers to run the affairs of the party in Zamfara State.
“We have notified all the relevant security agencies in the state for smooth conduct of the exercise but to our dismay, these thugs came and started throwing stones on our members.
“They have succeeded in destroying many of our vehicles, chairs and the election materials.
“They also attempted to burn down our secretariat, opposite the Zamfara State Ministry of Finance, if not for the quick response of the security agents.”
Meanwhile, the congress has been moved to the Nigerian Army Facility (Command Guest House) in Gusau over security reasons.
