According to an Early Warning Project report, Nigeria has maintained the top spot on a list of 162 countries witnessing mass killings.

Nigeria was ranked eighth, owing largely to the increase in security challenges afflicting the country.

The country recently received clearance to deploy the Super Tucano jets from the United States against bandits besieging the country, particularly in the North-West and North-Central states.

Pakistan, which maintained first place in the ranking, is followed by India, Yemen, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, and Ethiopia.

The Early Warning Project is a joint initiative of the United States’ Simon-Skjodt Center for the Prevention of Genocide at Dartmouth College, U.S.

It also predicted that new mass killings would occur in Nigeria in 2022.

“We aim to help governments, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations determine where to devote resources for additional analysis, policy attention, and, ultimately, preventive action,” the report stated.

We hope that this report, as well as our entire Early Warning Project, inspire governments and international organizations to invest in their own early warning capabilities.
